Most of the time a rock wall will fail because it does not have proper drainage. Drainage behind the wall is critical for a wall to last year over year. When it rains water runs behind the wall and if there is not enough places for the water to go it will build up what is known as hydrostatic pressure, push the wall outwards and it will eventually fail. A properly constructed wall will have approximately 1′ of drainage rock behind the main wall, and filter cloth separating the native soil from the drainage rock. The purpose of the filter cloth is to keep the drainage rock clean and uncontaminated. Looking to have a solid professionally constructed rock wall built on your property?
